1. Who we are
This Privacy Policy explains how Bizbie Inc., operating as Bizbie ("Bizbie", "we", "us"), collects, uses, shares and protects personal information. We are responsible for personal information under our control.
Privacy Officer: Ashley Norton-Smith, Founder
Email: info@bizbie.com
Address: 22524 Highway 37, Sturgeon County, Alberta T8L 5A5
This policy applies to bizbie.com, the Bizbie app and related services, for users in Canada. Bizbie is currently available in Canada only.
2. Summary
- We collect only what we need to run Bizbie.
- Your device location is collected only if you choose to share it. We never sell it or share it for advertising.
- We do not sell personal information.
- We do not share personal information with advertisers.
- Demographic details are optional, and insights made from them are grouped so they never identify you.
- Your data is stored in Canada.
- You can access, correct or delete your information, withdraw consent, and remove saved locations at any time.
3. Information we collect
3.1 Information you give us
Everyone - Account information: first and last name, email address and password, or the details we receive if you sign up with Google, Apple or Facebook (usually your name and email address). We send a one-time code to your email to confirm it. - Profile information: profile photo and the general area shown on your profile (for example, "Gibbons, AB"). - Your activity: your wishlist, orders, calendar, connections, the categories and listings you choose to silence or hide, and your recommendations, feedback, posts, comments, likes and shares. - Optional demographic information: if we ask optional questions such as age range or gender identity, answering is up to you. You can change or delete your answers at any time.
Business Owners - Business profile: business name, business type, description, address and map location, opening hours, website and social media links (such as Facebook, Instagram, YouTube, TikTok and X), and the code of the BizRep who signed you up. - Verification documents: a government-issued photo ID (such as a driver's licence), business name registration, and any permits, certificates or compliance declarations your business type requires (for example, food handling permits for food and beverage businesses).
BizReps - BizRep profile: name, email address, "About Me" text and location. - Verification and agreement: a government-issued photo ID, and your acceptance of the Founding BizRep Agreement.
Identity checks. Identity checks may be handled by a verification provider, such as Stripe Identity. We keep only what we need to show that a check was completed.
Purchases and messages - Purchase records: what you bought, from whom, when, and the amount. - Messages: messages you send through Bizbie, including to businesses, and to our support team through the Contact form.
3.2 Location information
- Home address: you can save your home address, the same way you would in a delivery or ride-sharing app. We store it exactly, use it as your Home Hub, and show you businesses within your chosen radius of it. Your home address is never shown to other users or businesses. Your profile shows only your general area (for example, "Gibbons, AB").
- Device location: if you allow it, we use your device's location while you're using the app, to set or update your Home Hub and to show businesses around you when you're away from home. This is optional, and you can turn it off at any time in your device settings.
- Saved locations: we keep the other locations you save or switch to, so the Service shows the right businesses. You can remove any saved location.
3.3 Payment information
Payments are processed by Stripe. Businesses are paid through Stripe Connect, which holds their bank and tax details. We do not store full card or bank account numbers. We receive limited transaction details, such as the amount, date and last four digits of a card.
3.4 Information collected automatically
- Device type, operating system, app version, and how you use the Service (for example, screens viewed and features used).
- IP address and the approximate location it indicates, used for security and fraud prevention.
- Information from analytics and crash-reporting tools, such as Google Analytics, that tell us how the Service is used and when something goes wrong.
3.5 Information from BizReps
BizReps give us information about the businesses they sign up and verify. BizReps may not collect personal information from Community Members on our behalf.
4. How we use information
We use personal information to: - create and manage accounts and profiles; - show listings, search results, recommendations and sponsored placements for your area; - process purchases, service fees, paid profiles, add-ons and BizRep commissions; - verify purchases before a recommendation is allowed, and prevent fake or self-purchase recommendations; - confirm users meet our minimum age; - verify business owners and businesses; - let businesses know when a business profile has been inactive, so its BizRep can check in; - respond to support requests; - keep the Service secure and prevent fraud and abuse; - improve the Service; - create grouped community insights (see section 5); - send service messages, and marketing messages where you have agreed or the law allows; - meet our legal obligations.
5. Community insights
If you choose to share demographic details, we may combine them with general location and activity to create grouped insights about commerce in a community. For example, which kinds of businesses are in demand in an area. We may share these insights with businesses.
We protect these insights by: - only reporting on groups of at least 20 people; - never giving individual records to businesses, BizReps or anyone else; - checking insights before release to make sure individuals cannot be identified.
We will update this policy and ask for any consent needed before sharing insights with anyone else, such as municipalities.
6. Sharing information
We do not sell personal information. We share it only in these situations: - Service providers: companies that handle information for us, including Stripe (payments, payouts and identity verification), Google Firebase (database, sign-in and app services), Google, Apple and Facebook (only if you choose to sign up with them), Amazon Web Services Canada (photo and file storage), and our email and support tools. They may use it only to provide services to us. - Other users and businesses: what you choose to make public, such as recommendations and posts, with your first name and last initial. Feedback you send privately goes only to that business. Your exact location is never shared. - Businesses you buy from: the details they need to fulfil your order, such as your name and order information. - Grouped insights: as set out in section 5. Individual information is never shared with BizReps. - Legal and safety reasons: where the law requires it, to respond to valid legal process, or to protect people's rights, property or safety. - Business transfers: as part of a merger, acquisition or sale of assets. We will tell you before your information becomes subject to a different privacy policy.
We do not share personal information with advertisers.
7. Consent
We rely on your consent to collect, use and share personal information, except where the law allows otherwise. You can withdraw consent at any time, subject to legal or contractual limits and reasonable notice. Withdrawing consent may mean some features stop working.
When we need consent for a specific purpose, such as location sharing or demographic details, we ask you clearly at the time. You can manage location sharing in your device settings and in the Bizbie app.
8. Minors
Bizbie is for people aged 16 and over. We do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone younger. If we learn that we have, we will delete it. If you believe someone underage has given us information, contact info@bizbie.com.
9. How long we keep information
We keep personal information only as long as needed for the purposes in this policy, or as the law requires. - Account information: while your account is active, and for 6 years after closure where needed for legal or accounting reasons. - Home address and Home Hub: until you change them or delete your account. - Saved locations: 6 months, unless you remove a location sooner. - Purchase and recommendation records: 6 years, for accounting, disputes and legal obligations. - Grouped insights: may be kept indefinitely, as they do not identify anyone.
When you delete your account, we delete or de-identify your personal information within 30 days, except where the law requires us to keep it.
10. Security
We protect personal information with safeguards including encryption in transit and at rest, access controls, and verified sign-in. No system is completely secure. If a breach creates a real risk of significant harm, we will notify you and the Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada as the law requires.
11. Where information is stored
Personal information is stored in Canada. App data is held by Google Firebase in its Toronto region, and photos and files are stored in Amazon Web Services' Canada West (Calgary) region.
Some service providers, such as Stripe and our email tools, may process information outside Canada, where it may be subject to the laws of that country.
12. Your rights
You can: - access the personal information we hold about you; - correct anything that's wrong; - withdraw consent for optional uses, including demographic details and location sharing; - remove saved locations, including with "forget this location"; - delete your account, which removes or de-identifies your information as set out in section 9; - object to certain uses where the law allows.
To make a request, email info@bizbie.com. We will respond within 30 days. We may ask you to verify your identity first. If we refuse a request where the law allows, we will explain why.
If you're not satisfied with our response, you can complain to the Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada, or to your provincial privacy regulator where one applies. In Alberta, that is the Office of the Information and Privacy Commissioner of Alberta. In Quebec, it is the Commission d'accès à l'information.
13. Cookies and analytics
bizbie.com and the app use cookies and similar technologies to work properly, understand how they're used, and improve them. These include analytics tools such as Google Analytics. You can control cookies in your browser settings. Some features may not work if cookies are turned off.
14. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy. If a change is material, we will tell you at least 30 days before it takes effect, by email or in the app. The "last updated" date shows when it was last revised.
